Pre-Hung Exterior Door

• For a quick and simple shed door, you may purchase a pre-hung exterior door. It is similar to a pre-hung door for a home’s interior, but it is usually insulated to help keep the shed from becoming too cold during winter. Pre-hung exterior doors are made of wood, steel and fiberglass, and they are available in a variety of colors. Some contain window panels, and so you may dress up the structure by adding curtains.

Barn-Style Door

• A barn-style door is an ideal option for a distinctive look for your shed. Typically in a pair, the doors swing open and away from each other. They may feature windows on their upper portion or contain solid wood panels. Barn-style shed doors are usually painted to contrast at least slightly with the rest of the shed. Depending on the size of your shed, you may be able to use authentic doors salvaged from an old barn. If your shed is on the small side, however, you could build barn-style doors to fit the structure. Paint the door white and add black hinges for a classic look.

Batten Door

• A batten door provides a highly decorative appearance, but it is also simple to build. The door is composed of several boards positioned vertically and connected with wooden strips known as battens. You can attach the battens to the door in a Z or X formation that helps strengthen the door. A batten door usually works best on a shed with wood siding because you can use the same boards for both applications for a seamless look. The siding and the doors may have a natural finish or paint to give the shed a cottage-style look.

Roller Door

• If you store large machinery or equipment in your shed and need a large door with a flush threshold, then a roller door may be a good option. A roller door is usually made from aluminum, steel or plastic, and it requires less space than other door styles because it doesn’t swing open. The door rolls behind the doorway, out of the way as you move items in and out of your shed.
