How to Plant a Tangerine Seed

Those of us who love gardening will attempt to plant and grow anything just to see if we can get it to grow. This holds true with tangerine seeds. Whether the tangerine eventually bears fruit is secondary to the joy we will experience in planting the seed and the whole process we will go through in caring for it .

Instructions

    • 1

Plant the seed about 1/2 to 1 inch deep in a small (2- to 4-inch) pot of moist potting soil as soon as you take it from the fruit. Keep the soil moist but not soggy.

    • 2

Transplant the seedling in about 10 to 20 days when the seed has germinated. When transplanting, be careful with the roots. Transplant seedling into a 1/2-gallon pot.

    • 3

Allow the plant to grow to about 1 to 2 feet, which should take anywhere from a few months to a year. Transplant the plant into a 10-gallon pot. Keep the plant in a well-lighted room but out of direct sunlight. Keep plant in a sunny west room or a south-facing window.

Keep the plant indoors during winter. During the warmer seasons of spring, summer and early fall, the plant can be kept outdoors but away from direct sunlight.

    • 5

Do not prune the tree if you want fruit. Blooming will occur in four to five years, depending on the node count, which is the number of leaves on the tree.
