What Is the Quickest Way to Grow Grass?

The fight to obtain the perfect lawn in the neighborhood is something that many homeowners strive to achieve. When the snow first melts after the cold winter months, people want to be prepared to plant their seeds into the ground or achieve the greenest lawn in the neighborhood. There are some ways to get grass to grow faster.
  1. Hydroseeding

    • The quickest and most effective way to grow grass fast is by a process called hydroseeding. To begin, use a Hydroseed machine to combine seed, water, fertilizer, tackifier, and green wood fiber mulch into a large slushy like substance. This is then sprayed on the ground with a high pressure hose. The high pressure hose helps to reach into all parts of your terrain, especially if the area you are spraying has lots of slopes and uneven surfaces. When the mixture dries, it will create a covering over the ground, which protects the seeds from being washed away or from birds eating them. The seeds are always in contact with the water and fertilizer and therefore should sprout up in about 2-3 weeks. The cost for hydroseeding is about six to 12 cents per square foot.

    Fast-growing seeds

    • Another way to get that green lawn as quick as possible is to buy and plant something called fast-growing seeds. The CanadaGreen grass seed says that it will sprout grass in about 10 days. The seed is specifically designed to thrive in the cold Canadian winters so it should be able to thrive in many of the climates of the United States. A two-pound bag of the seeds would cover about 1,000 sq. ft and retails for $14.99, according to the CanadaGreen website. The manufacture claims that the grass is tough enough to survive foot traffic, snow, heat and drought.

    Bermuda grass

    • Bermuda grass is another type of grass known for its fast growing and lush flowing fields. This grass, however, can only be properly used in the Southern United States due to the climate. This is the type of grass that is typically found at the stadiums of professional football teams, including most Super Bowls. It is also found on many golf courses. There are a dozen different varieties of Bermuda grass to choose from, which helps the user pick which one is better for their own personal lawns. Bermuda grass takes approximately 3 to 4 weeks to grow.
