# How to Harvest Celery Seed
Celery is a common herb, well-known for its slightly spicy, aromatic flavor. Celery seeds have this flavor and spice concentrated in them, making them a popular garnish for food, especially tomato-based dishes. It's also easy to propagate celery from seed. Harvesting your own seeds isn't a complicated process. It simply requires patience and a sharp eye.

- Established celery plants
- Old, clean cloth
- Bowl or jar
- Wooden spoon

Wait until your celery plants develop seed stalks. These grow from the top of the celery plant and can reach up to 3 feet tall. They will develop feathery green flowers on the top where the seeds grow.

Allow the seed stalks to dry on the plant as long as possible. The stalks should be brown and brittle before you pluck them. If wind threatens to take the seed stalks, snap off the flowers and set them in a cool, dry place to dry out.

Place the dried celery flowers on an old, clean cloth such as an old bed sheet. Tap the flowers lightly with the end of a wooden spoon. The seeds will spill out of the flowers onto the sheet.

Discard the flowers and pour the celery seeds into a bowl for use, or into a jar for storage.
