How to Grow Beans in a Container

If you are limited on space, growing beans in a container can be the right choice for you. Container gardening is perfect for patios, balconies and if you just don't want to have all of the fuss of planting a traditional vegetable garden. There is nothing like the taste of fresh picked beans. Container gardening is a wonderful way to have fresh beans right outside of your kitchen door.

      Use a container at least 18 inches wide and 15 inches tall.

      Add fertilized soil to the container.

      Choose the type of beans you are interested in growing. You can choose bush beans or pole beans. pole beans will require a trellis for support. Bush beans grow lower to the ground and do not require any support.

      Plant bean seeds when the weather is above 60° overnight. Place the seeds about 1 inch into the soil of the container. If you plant pole beans, place the trellis in the container and plant the beans seeds 4 to 6 inches in front of the trellis. if you plant bush beans, space the seeds 4 to 6 inches apart throughout the container.

      Water daily when the weather is hot. Check the soil to make sure it does not completely dry out and if it feels dry, add water.
