Remove the apricot seed from the apricot and soak it in a glass of water for 24 hours.
Wet a paper towel and wrap it around the apricot seed after you have taken it out of the glass of water. Put the wrapped apricot in a plastic container and put it in the refrigerator for four to six weeks. This will simulate the cold winter months of a moderate climate.
Plant the apricot seed 2 inches deep in a mound of rich potting soil. The mound should be made using two bags of fruit potting soil mixed together with one bag of compost using a rake. Seeds should be planted close to the beginning of the spring in late March or early April, which will ensure they will have time to sprout during the warmer months of the year. Make sure you choose a spot where the mound will receive a lot of sunlight, and also ensure that there is enough room for an apricot tree to sprout where you planted it.
Water the mound every day. Eventually a tree will begin to sprout up and grow. Once the tree is 3 to 4 feet tall, you will not need to water it, as it will have developed a root system and be independent.
