Speak kindly to everyone you meet, this includes the beggar on the street or that annoying neighbor who shows up at your door at the most inconvenient times. Although you can certainly be assertive, if necessary, using kind words shows that you care about the person, even if you disapprove of his actions. Kind words build others up and make you feel better about yourself, as well.
Show compassion for the pain and suffering of others. Although their suffering may not seem great to you, it might be the most difficult challenge they have ever faced Take the time to understand their feelings and offer assistance to ease their burdens.
Lend a helping hand whenever you see someone in need. This can be as simple as opening a door, carrying a package or offering to watch the children so an overwhelmed mother can get some rest. Look at their needs and find ways to help.
Exercise patience. You cannot fully understand what others are going through or what challenges they face in their lives. Be patient with others and don't expect them to be perfect.
Look for the good qualities in people and compliment them on the things they do well. There is something good in everyone, if you look. Get in the habit of seeing the good and using it to build others up, instead of cutting others down by pointing out their faults.
Tell those around you how much you love them and how important they are to you. Although you may think they already know, everyone likes to hear they are loved. Get in the habit of expressing your love with your words, as well as your actions.
