How to Use Magnets to Increase Seed Sprouting

Much research exists to demonstrate the positive effects of magnets and magnetic fields on plant growth and seed germination; even NASA conducts experiments to this end. It is also common practice for seed distributors to magnetically treat seeds to encourage seed sprouting. Typically, high powered magnetic fields are used to germinate seeds and encourage plant growth, but similar effects can be achieved on a smaller scale with a common magnet.

Things You'll Need

  • Medium strength magnets, 1500 to 2500 gauss

Instructions

    • 1

Place the seeds on the south pole side of the magnets. The south pole of a magnet works better with the natural minerals in plant seeds.

    • 2

Leave the seeds on the south pole side of the magnet for three to five days prior to planting.

    • 3

Plants the seeds and water thoroughly.
