How to Hull Morning Glory Seeds

Morning glory (Ipomoea) develops as a twining vine of heart-shaped, dark-green leaves and flowers that resemble miniature trumpets. They bloom from summer through fall in a number of colors -- blue, white, pink, red, purple -- depending on the variety. This vine propagates from directly sown seeds that form inside round seedpods. Morning glory also self-sows when the pods, which hang in clusters on the branches, mature and release the dark-colored seeds. In order to hull this plant's seeds, you also have to wait until the seedpods ripen.

     Prune the clusters of morning glory seedpods when they become brown and develop a dry and brittle texture, like old parchment paper.

     Crush the seedpods between two fingers or rub them between your palms over a container, to catch the seeds that fall.

     Transfer the seeds to a paper towel and keep them in a well-ventilated area -- but not breezy, as the seeds are light -- to dry for one week. Store them in a paper envelope.
