How to Roll Up Newspaper for Seeds

Save time and effort planting your garden by preparing newspaper seed strips ahead of time. Gardeners affix their seeds to the strips using a paste made of flour of water, and space them at the interval recommended on the seed's package. Lay the strips out in garden trenches dug to the required depth of the seed. You will spend less time on your hands and knees sorting seeds and trying to space them the proper distance from each other.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfold the newspaper and lay it out on a flat surface.

    • 2

Orient the newspaper so one of the shorter sides is nearest you and the longer sides go away from you. If you are using a tabloid, you will have the opened newspaper sideways in front of you.

    • 3

Roll the shorter side of the newspaper away from you to form a tube that you can hold in one hand. This will give you the longest possible strips.

    • 4

Hold the tube closed in one hand and cut 1 inch sections off of the tube.

    • 5

Use the resulting strips from the rolled newspaper to make your seed strips.
