Open a new Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Click on cell A1. Each column should represent a different plant. Each cell should represent a different day of the week. The days of the week should be uniform for all plants. For example, chart seven cells for each plant to represent growth on each day of the week.
Measure your plants using a standard English ruler. Place the ruler on the ground, parallel to the plant. Eyeball the measurement, and record it in the cell as a number. For example "three inches" would be recorded as "3."
Type your first measurement of your plant in cell A1, which represents Sunday. Click on cell A2. Type the measurement of your plant in this cell, which represents Monday. Continue in this pattern until the first plant's measurements are recorded in the seven cells of column A. Repeat this process for other columns, which represent new plants.
Click cell A1. Then hit Control plus the letter A. Click Insert.
Select a style of graph or chart. A line or bar graph works well in situations identifying growth to an audience. Once you click on the style of graph you would like, it will appear on your screen.
