How to Propagate Edible Pear Trees

Propagation is a way of creating a new plant from a bulb, cutting or plant seed. Growers of fruit trees commonly propagate their fruit trees to create new varieties of fruit, since a fruit tree grown from the seed or part of another tree will make a hybrid of two plants, not the same exact fruit tree. One of the simplest ways to propogate an edible pear tree is by growing one from seed.

Instructions

  Save pear seeds from pears after you have eaten them. Pears you have grown yourself or bought from a local grower are best and will be more fertile.

  Fill your growing trays with potting soil, to just under the top of the trays.

  Plant your pear seeds 1 inch deep in the potting soil inside the growing trays.

  Mist your growing trays with water daily, and keep them in a place where they get partial sunlight.

  Hoe up a sunny area outside, while removing weeds and mix in some compost or manure.

  Transfer your fruit trees outside to your prepared area after they reach approximately 6 to 8 inches tall. It is best to wait until spring, after all chances of frost have passed.

  Water your plant three to four days per week or more often during hot, dry spells.
