Berseem Clover Seed Sizes

Berseem clover, which has the scientific name Trifolium alexandrinum, is an annual legume that is commonly used as a cover crop. Among other applications, cover crops can help to prevent erosion, add nutrients to soil, increase organic matter, feed livestock, hinder weed growth and control pests.
  1. Seed Size

    • Berseem clover seed is fairly small, about 2mm. It is comparable in size to red and crimson clover seed.

    Application Rates

    • From 9 to 20 lbs. of Berseem clover seeds are applied per one acre, and about 1 lb. is applied per 1,000 square feet. The application rates are similar to the application rates of other annual clovers commonly used in the United States.

    Seed Weight

    • About 440 Berseem clover seeds weigh 1g, and about 200,000 of the seeds weigh 1 lb. Because of the seeds' small size, experts recommend covering the seeds lightly with 1/4 to 1/2 inches of soil to retain moisture and prevent them from washing away. In larger fields, the seeds are rolled or cultipacked. In small plots, they are packed by hand or foot.
