How to Germinate a Ranunculus F1 Bloomdale Orange

Ranunculus, also known as Persian buttercup, is a tuberous flower hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture zones 8 and 9. In zones 4 to 7, the plant thrives in the garden in spring and summer. Harvest the blossoms in the fall for vase arrangements. The Ranunculus F1 “Bloomingdale Orange” cultivar is a hybrid that belongs to the species asiaticus. It grows to just under 1 foot in height, producing orange-to-white flowers. It takes one to three months for its seeds to germinate.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a flat with seed-starter mix, a well-drained soilless germination medium made of peat and vermiculite. Water the potting mix thoroughly until it begins to drip out of the drainage holes.

    • 2

Sow the Ranunculus F1 “Bloomingdale Orange” seeds on the moist surface. Cover them with a fine layer of seed-starter mix. The seeds should be just 1/10 inch below the surface. Mist the new dry layer of potting mix with a spray bottle filled with water.

    • 3

Place the flat in a room that stays at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the ideal germination temperature for the “Bloomingdale Orange.”

    • 4

Irrigate the seeds regularly for the next month to three months, maintaining them always moist until germination.
