Cut out a six-inch square from heavy felt. Using heavy felt will result in a gnome that can be played with without falling apart.
Lay the felt flat on a table or counter top.
Cut out a 1-inch curve from both of the top corners. Try to make both curves as even as possible.
Thread a needle with embroidery floss, which can be purchased at any craft store.
Fold the felt shape in half. Line up the edges. There will be a flat edge along the bottom, a curved portion and a flat edge along the top.
Sew along the flat bottom edge, but don't sew around the curved edge. Tie off the thread, and cut off the excess.
Sew along the flat top edge. Tie off the thread, and cut off the excess.
Stuff the middle of the felt gnome with wool roving, allowing it to poke out of the open curved portion.
Use your gnome for storytelling, pretend play or to display on a seasonal table.
