DIY Twig Furniture

A collection of twigs can easily go from kindling to a craft project. Whether for a fairy home to play pretend or for small dolls, you can make your own twig furniture with a little bit of string and some standard school glue. Once your twig furniture is complete, you can dress it up to your liking however you please. Make as many or as few pieces as you desire.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Making a Bench

    • 1

Measure and cut five twigs to 4 inches long and lay the twigs side by side to form the seat of a bench. Cut two pieces of string 10 inches long. Weave the string between the twigs an inch in from each edge to lash the twigs together. Tie the string tight and cut away the excess.

    • 2

Measure the width of your five twigs and cut two twigs to this size. Lay these two twigs across the five twigs about a half inch in from the ends. Apply glue to attach the two twigs to the seat. Leave the bench seat with the two support twigs facing up to dry.

    • 3

Cut four twigs to 1 inch long. Place each of these twigs at the corners of your bench seat so they are standing upright to form the legs of the bench. Glue the end of each 1-inch twig to the bench seat and allow the entire unit to dry.

    Making Chairs

    • 4

Cut four twigs to 2 inches long. Place the twigs side by side and lash together with string, just as you did to make the bench, to form the seat of a chair. Repeat this step to cut four more twigs and lash together to form the back of the chair.

    • 5

Measure across the width of the chair's seat and cut two twigs to this length plus a half-inch. Lay these twigs perpendicular to the chair seat's twigs. Line up the two twigs so the ends are flush on one side of the seat and overhang by a half-inch on the other side. Slide the twigs inward to rest half an inch away from the cut edges of the chair seat. Glue these support twigs in place.

    • 6

Cut two twigs to 3 1/2 inches long. Place these twigs perpendicular to the chair's back. Make adjustments so the ends of the twigs are flush on one end and overhang the chair back by 1 1/2 inches on the other end. Slide the two twigs toward the cut ends of the chair's back so they are near the edge. Glue these twigs in place.

    • 7

Cut two twigs 1 inch long to form the front legs of the chair. Stand these twigs upright over the corners of the chair seat on the flush end of the support pieces, not at the corners where the overhang exists. Glue these pieces in place.

    • 8

Stand up the chair seat unit once the glue is dry. Align the chair back unit and seat so the half-inch overhang of the seat supports intersects neatly between the overhangs of the chair back. Glue the seat to the back and allow the entire unit to dry.
