How to Re-cover Patio Cushions

The outdoor elements eventually ruin the covers on patio furniture. Instead of going out and buying new furniture, simply re-cover the cushions. Knowledge of upholstery is not required. Re-covering patio cushions can be customized for personal taste and can be done in one day. Vinyl tablecloths are an economical way to re-cover patio cushions and can be found in any discount store, sometimes for as little as $1.

Instructions

  1. Instructions

    • 1

Measure each cushion and cut a tablecloth to fit, adding 2 inches to each side for sewing. Try to get as many cushions as possible from one tablecloth.

    • 2

Pin three sides of one cushion cover together, with right sides facing each other. Leave the fourth side open so the cushion can be inserted into the new cover when it's complete. Repeat this step for all cushion covers. It is easier to have all the cushion covers ready to sew at the same time.

    • 3

Sew three sides on each cover with a 2-inch seam. Turn each one inside out. Add the cushion to each cover.

    • 4

Sew the open edge together and cut the excess material off or fold the edges in and sew together. Repeat this step on all cushions.
