How to Make a Tile Patio Table

Imagine yourself sitting on your patio on a warm summer evening. Snacks and a cool pitcher of lemonade (or maybe something slightly stronger) sit on a table surrounded by your friends. The table is one of your own creation - an all weather, easy to clean, tile topped table that will be a great place to gather for years to come. The next time you break a piece of your favorite dinner service, save the pieces to become part of a garden table.

Instructions

  1. Tiling Your Table

    • 1

Using broken bits of your favorite china or mosaic tiles, design the tabletop.
Draw directly on the tabletop or plan on a piece of paper. Small, intricate parts in a design can be hard to make in tile and may not look as you planned. Bottle tops, stones, shells and other items can be added to the tabletop as well.

    • 2

Apply a thin coat of adhesive to the tabletop. Start in the middle of a round table or at one side of a square or rectangular table. Lay the pattern into the adhesive and allow to dry thoroughly, following the manufacturer's directions for drying time for the tile adhesive.

    • 3

Grout your table. Work the grout between the tiles and objects being careful to fill in each area fully.
Colors are available to mix into the grout. Allow the grout to dry for a few hours or according to package directions.

    • 4

Use a sponge to clean the dry tabletop with soap and water. This will remove any film left on the tiles by the grout.

    • 5

Apply a grout and tile sealant to protect your artwork from the elements. Allow to dry thoroughly..
