How to Paint Plastic Lawn Furniture Easily

Plastic is so durable that it lasts long after its color has faded. Give tired-looking plastic lawn furniture a second life with a new coat of paint. No sanding or priming is necessary, and the project will cost just a few dollars and a couple of hours of work.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy spray paint formulated for use on plastic. Choose products that are suitable for use on plastic, PVC, vinyl and wicker.

    • 2

Remove all loose dirt and debris with a brush, using soap, bleach and water if necessary. Ensure that the surface is completely dry before you begin painting.

    • 3

Set up your work area in a well-ventilated area, preferably outdoors. The temperature of the work area should be between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit with low humidity. Place a drop cloth on the ground and over nearby items, and wear old clothing and a paint mask.

    • 4

Shake the can for two minutes to adequately mix the paint and test it in an inconspicuous area, such as the underside of a chair.

    • 5

Spray the furniture in a sweeping motion and in 30-second intervals.

    • 6

Apply several thin coats to avoid drips, runs and uneven coverage. Let it dry completely, following recommendations on the can, before putting the furniture to use.
