How to Reseat Aluminum Lawn Chairs

Aluminum lawn chairs are light and inexpensive ways to add seating to your yard or porch. Consisting of an aluminum frame and woven webbing for the seat and back, they are a comfortable alternative to more expensive lawn furniture. The webbing can fray and break through long-term use, but the re-webbing process takes about an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the webbing that is frayed and needs replacing. If most of the webs are old and frayed, it's better to replace all the webbing strips at once, so you don't have to repeat the process in a short amount of time.

    • 2

Measure the old webbing and cut new web strips to the same length. Fold the top of one web down on the diagonal, then the other side down on the diagonal to create a point in the webbing end. This creates three layers for the screw to pierce, making a secure hold to the chair frame.

    • 3

Use the screwdriver to poke a hole in the three layers of webbing where the screw will go through. Slip a washer onto the screw, put the screw through the webbing, slip the screw through the chair frame and secure it with a nut. Weave the loose end of the webbing through the existing chair webs until you reach the other side.

    • 4

Create a point in the loose end of the webbing and attach it to the chair frame in the same manner as with the first end. Open the chair to check the length of the webbing. If the webbing seems too loose, undo the screw and move it further along the webbing, slightly farther from the end.
