Types of Vinyl Fences

A variety of different materials are available with which homeowners can make fences. Chain link, wooden posts and steel poles are all options that homeowners can pick, but vinyl is an option, too. This flexible PVC material can be shaped into a number of different styles, and vinyl requires little upkeep in order to keep it in shape.
  1. Post and Rail

    • One of the different types of vinyl fences available is a post and rail fence. These fences have posts at regular distances, and posts are connected by boards. The entire fence is made out of vinyl material, but the posts may be reinforced with steel poles to provide extra support. The posts might also be sunk into concrete to ensure stability. Additionally, these fences, just as with other types of vinyl, can be dyed certain colors to make painting an unnecessary chore.

    "Iron" Fencing

    • Vinyl fencing can also be made to look like decorative iron fencing. Iron can require a lot of upkeep, especially if the iron is left exposed to the elements that make it rust and chip. Vinyl can duplicate the look and the structure of wrought iron fencing, but the chores of sanding, painting, chemically treating are all but gone. Vinyl can also endure for years without too much maintenance, and it's a great deal cheaper to buy and mold than iron is.

    "Wood" Fencing

    • Vinyl can also be shaped to look like wood. Vinyl siding has been used for this purpose for years, and the same methods of molding the grain and dying the vinyl to a natural, wood color can be used to make fence slats. These fences are quite durable, and just as with other types of vinyl fencing they never have to be painted. Additionally, these "wooden" fences can just be rinsed off with a water hose, or, in some cases in which the vinyl is thick, a power washer.
