How to Make a Utensil Holder for the BBQ

Barbecuing is dirty work. A phone book can be recycled into a simple utensil holder that will keep your tools handy and out of the way when you aren't using them. Consider making a second, smaller holder for your condiments or forks and spoons.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 phone book, white or yellow pages
  • T-square
  • Utility knife
  • Beer bottle
  • Pencil
  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Six binder clips

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a line down the cover of the phone book, cutting it in half, using a T-square. The line should run from the spine to the outside edge of the book.

    • 2

Cut the book completely in half, using the utility knife. If you live in a big city and have a very thick phone book, use the white pages only. You should have a section of phone book, attached on one side by the spine, that is about 6 inches high, 8 inches long and 2 inches thick.

    • 3

Hold the pencil against the spine and bend the spine backward around it. Crease the spine so that it will stay in this circular form. Divide the pages into three equal sections.

    • 4

Hold the beer bottle against one section of pages and bend them around it so that the page ends fold back to the spine. The page ends will fan out a little. Use two binder clips to hold the pages together and trim the fanned page ends so that they are even. Repeat with remaining two page sections. Keep the binder clips on each section of pages.

    • 5

Fold the first section of pages back around the beer bottle and use the hot glue gun to secure them near the spine. Repeat with other three sections. Your holder should look like a three-leafed clover or a flower with three petals. Glue the sides of the petals together, which will keep the shape of the utensil holder.

    • 6

Stand barbecue utensils in the petals of your new holder. As the outside pages get dirty, simply pull them off and reglue if necessary.
