The Brightest Garden Solar Light

Solar lights are a good choice for your garden. They save energy and can turn on and off automatically in response to changing light levels. Because they don't need to be hooked up to an electricity supply, they are easy to install: sometimes installation is as simple as popping a small stake-supported light in the ground. The once-common drawbacks of unreliability and dingy, inadequate lighting are easy to avoid with today's super bright LEDs and advanced designs.
  1. Solar Accent Lights

    • Accent lights create pools of gentle radiance in your garden. Use them to highlight an attractive feature such as a statue or a decorative shrub. They are not as bright as other forms of lighting, being designed for visual interest rather than practical illumination. Earthtech's Blue Fire solar garden art light, which uses high-powered bright white LED lighting inside blue glass, is one example. A different option is Gama Sonic's solar charged Low-Profile Accent Light, which can be set into the ground.

    Solar Security Lights

    • Solar security lights need to be super bright, so some use halogen bulbs instead of LEDs. The relatively small amount of energy that a solar panel and battery can provide won't power the light for very long, but security lights only need to provide illumination periodically. When equipped with a motion sensor, solar security lights can be a practical choice. Unlike conventionally powered security lights, they are not affected by power outages and will still work even if power lines are down.

The HALOSol Security Light is one example of a solar-powered halogen security light. It has a separate solar panel to allow for optimum positioning for both the lighting unit and the panel. If you prefer an LED unit, Maxsa's Solar-Powered Motion-Activated LED Security Floodlight is an alternative option.

    Solar Lamp Posts and Lanterns

    • You can choose solar lanterns and lamp posts when you need good illumination for a larger area. Lamp posts are available with single or multiple lamps and come in a number of designs, including the nostalgic Victorian-style lamps offered by many solar light manufacturers. Lamps can be hung on hooks or secured to walls and fences. Lamp posts have the advantage of being free-standing, so you can install them almost anywhere.

    Solar Task Lights

    • Apart from halogen solar security lighting, solar task lights and spotlights are the brightest of all. A good quality solar spotlight or task light can produce a beam of light equivalent to a 40-watt incandescent spotlight. They are a great choice for entryways or for highlighting attractive garden features. One model, the Solar Deck/Path Light, can throw a beam of light up to 50 yards. Solar task lights tend to be much more expensive than other kinds of lighting but they are brighter as well as being more rugged and durable.
