How to Make a Decorative Tripod Out of Sticks

Place the three sticks side by side flat on the ground. Wrap rope around one of the outer sticks and tie a knot. The rope should be between 10 and 24 inches from the top of the sticks. The spot where the rope is placed will be the centre of your tripod and the remaining wood above it will form an inverted cone. This inverted cone will cradle whatever you wish to place in it, whether a birdbath or a potted plant.

Wrap the rope loosely around all three sticks eight or nine times. Use the remaining rope to form two tight frapping turns between the sticks. This means that you wrap the rope around itself between each of the sticks enough times to make the knot tight.

Secure this wrap with another knot around the stick opposite the stick you started on. Now you should be able to stand the tripod up. Position the three sticks at equal intervals until the structure is solid. The knot you tied will allow you to adjust the posts without the risk of them falling apart.

Use the upper portion of the garden tripod above the rope knot. Place a stone bird bath here amidst the posts. A glass ball, sculpture or potted plant can be balanced in this newly-created nook. Plant climbing plants such as sweet peas, beans or other decorative vines at the base of each post. As the plants grow they will wrap around the tripod posts, creating an ornamental piece of garden art for you to enjoy all season long.
