How to Remove Mold From Wicker

Wicker furniture is made from slender branches or twigs, often willow or cane. The material is commonly used to make patio furniture. When left outdoors in high humidity, wicker can develop mold and mildew. Remove the growth from wicker furniture using a bleach solution.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with warm water and add 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap and 1 cup of bleach.

    • 2

Take the bucket and the wicker furniture outside to a sunny spot. It is best to clean the furniture on a warm, windy day. The heat and air circulation will help the wicker dry once you have finished cleaning it.

    • 3

Dip a soft scrub brush into the soap and bleach solution and scrub away all mold spots.

    • 4

Rinse the wicker with water from a garden hose and dry it with a clean towel. Make sure you have removed all mold spots.

    • 5

Dip a cotton swab in undiluted bleach and rub any remaining mold spots with the liquid. Wipe the spots down with a clean, damp cloth to rinse.

    • 6

Leave the wicker piece in the sun for three or four days, bringing it inside at night. Do not let anyone sit on the furniture until it is dry.
