How to Clean Plastic Garden Furniture

Plastic garden furniture provides a durable and inexpensive choice for outdoor seating and tables. Most designs stack and store easily when not in use, so it's also a space-saving choice. The plastic surface repels water, but dirt buildup causes it to lose its luster and appear dingy. Care must be taken when cleaning plastic garden furniture, as abrasive cleaners can scratch the surface of the plastic, and it's more difficult to remove dirt from the abraded areas.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bucket with warm tap water. Add three or four squirts of liquid dish soap to the water.

    • 2

Spray the furniture with a garden hose, using a sharp spray. Rinse away as much loose dirt as possible.

    • 3

Scrub the furniture with the soapy water and a soft-bristled brush. Car-washing brushes work well, as they help loosen dirt without scratching the finish.

    • 4

Rinse the soap and grime from the furniture. Scrub any areas that still remain dirty a second time, then rinse again.

    • 5

Storing wet furniture can lead to mildew growth, so prior to storage, set the furniture out to dry thoroughly, or dry it with towels to reduce water spots.
