  1. How to Replace a Market Umbrella Rope

    • 1

Remove the crank assembly. Be sure to label the parts of the assembly in the order they were removed, which will assist when putting the assembly back together.

    • 2

Remove all sections of the old cord, and measure the new cord to the same specifications. While removing the cord, keep an eye on the original placement of the old cord on the pulley mechanism, as this will be the path for the replacement cord as well.

    • 3

Tilt the top of the pole. Tie your new cord to fish tape or music wire, and thread the wire through to the crank assembly.

    • 4

Continue to thread the wire through the crank assembly, drawing the rope through the same path, until there is no rope left outside of the top tilt. Leave three to four inches of slack in the rope beyond the crank assembly and tie a knot.

    • 5

      Reassemble the crank.
