Instructions

Cut the wood to the proper size with a circular saw. Cut the 2-by-4-inch boards into these lengths: one 20-inch, two 19-inch, two 14 1/2-inch, four 24-inch. Cut the 1-by-4-inch boards these lengths: ten 20-inch and two 21-inch.

    • 2

Construct the seat of the chair with the following pieces; One 1-by-4-inch board measuring 20 inches, two 2-by-4-inch boards measuring 19 inches, five 1-by-4 inch pine measuring 20 inches. Lay the 20-inch 1-by-4 on a flat surface. This is the seat front. Arrange the two 19-inch 2-by-4s on either side of it. These are the seat sides.

Place the seat sides parallel to each other, 17 inches apart. Place the seat front over the ends of the two sides. Glue the pieces together and then screw them together with 2 1/2 inch wood screws. Glue and screw the 5 pieces of 1-by-4 inch board to the top of the frame.

    • 3

Make the back of the chair using two 2-by-4-inch boards measuring 14 1/2 inches and five 1-by-4-inch boards measuring 20 inches. Position the two 2-by-4s parallel to each other and 13 inches apart. Glue and then screw the five 1-by-4 boards across the other boards.

Make the sides of the chair using two pieces of 1-by-4-inch board measuring 21 inches long and four 2-by-4-inch boards measuring 24 inches long. Place the two 2-by-4s parallel to each other and 12 inches apart. Glue and screw a 1-by-4 inch board across them to form the arm of the chair. Repeat this with the other three boards.

    • 5

Using carriage bolts, secure the sides of the chair to the seat 18 inches from the bottom of the chair sides. The chair seat will stick out 2 inches from the bolted sides. Hold the wood together with a clamp and drill a hole before bolting the wood together.

Slide the back of the chair between the two sides. Position the back on a slight angle and clamp it in place. Using 3 1/2-inch lag screws, screw the back to the sides of the chair. Sand all rough edges of the completed chair.
