Instructions

    • 1

Find a tree branch that is strong and high enough. Test the tree branch to ensure that it is alive; a dead tree branch will lack leaves, feature cracks and show some dead wood.

    • 2

Tie the string around the rock and unravel a lot of the string while keeping it from tangling. Throw the rock over the branch so you have the string hanging on it.

    • 3

Untie the rock on one end of the string and tie the rope to it. Draw the rope up and over the branch very carefully and all the way down to the other side.

    • 4

Repeat for a second length of rope so that you have two lengths of rope hanging side-by-side from the branch. Both ropes should reach all the way to the ground. Trim them if they are too long.

    • 5

Cut holes in the four corners of the wooden plank large enough for the rope to pass through.

    • 6

Run the ends of the ropes through the holes and not them underneath. The knot should be secure enough to support a person's weight.
