How to Get Rid of Bird Poop From Cement

Bird poop appearing on cement surfaces such as driveways or statues, is an unavoidable part of the warm, summer months. Such droppings leave noticeable white and gray stains, detracting from the look of the cement piece or area. Always use caution when dealing with such a problem to avoid both damaging the cement surface and becoming ill from dealing with the droppings. A homemade cement cleaner, with the proper cleaning method, keeps you and the cement item safe as you clean.

Instructions

    • 1

      Wear protective clothing.

A mask, cleaning gloves, long sleeve shirt, pants and boots are recommended to ensure you do not come into contact with the bird poop.

    • 2

Wet the nylon bristled brush with tap water.

    • 3

Scrub the cement area to eliminate stuck-on bird droppings.

Don't worry if some bird poop remains, as this is just the first step in the cleaning process.

    • 4

Mix chlorine bleach with water inside a watering can or similar container.

The normal dilution is 10 parts water with just 1 part chlorine bleach, but using more bleach for harsher stains is acceptable.

    • 5

Pour the solution evenly over the stained cement area.

Cover all the cement when dealing with small items, such as a small cement bird fountain, to prevent stains.

    • 6

Scrub the area with the melamine foam scrubbers.

Scrub thoroughly until the bird poop and any stains are thoroughly lifted from the cement.

    • 7

Leave the solution on the cement for roughly five minutes.

Then rinse the area thoroughly with a hose or by pouring a generous amount of tap water over the item. Use a "more is better" method when rinsing the cement area to ensure all traces of bleach are eliminated.
