Look for a desirable installation area with free space that is equal to at least twice the length of the hammock. Consider whether you prefer to lie in shade or in sun and choose the location accordingly.
Dig a 2-foot-deep hole at one side of the installation area using a hole-digger tool. Place a tape measure at the center top of the hole and measure out the length of the hammock plus 24 inches. Dig an identical 2-foot-deep hole in this location as well.
Insert a 10-foot-long 4-by-4 wood post into each of the holes. Pour one bag of quick-setting concrete mix into a wheelbarrow and add the amount of water instructed on the bag. Mix the concrete thoroughly with a shovel. Pour the concrete equally into each of the holes, and brace the posts so that they will remain vertical until the concrete sets firmly.
Let the concrete set for at least 24 hours; 48 hours is better. Place some dirt on top of the concrete to disguise it.
Place a stepladder next to one of the posts and measure up about 6 feet from the ground. Insert a 1/4-inch drill bit into a drill and create a 1-inch-deep pilot hole. Insert the threaded end of an eye hook into the hole and turn it clockwise until it is secure.
Move the stepladder to the other post and repeat the process to install an eye hook on it.
Hang the hooks on each end of the hammock onto the rings of the eye hooks.
