How to Replace a Tropitone Sling

Tropitone produces outdoor furniture widely used in hotels, resorts and other commercial venues. Its selection includes patio chairs, chaise lounges, bar stools and spa chairs. All Tropitone furniture is individually manufactured to customer specifications and must be preordered from authorized dealers. Tropitone sling furniture features woven fabric stretched over an all-aluminum frame in either a tight-stretch or relaxed-stretch configuration. Tropitone's one-piece relaxed-stretch outdoor chairs feature user-installable slings to replace damaged or weathered fabric.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the two plastic end caps located at the top of the chair frame. Pry out the end caps with a screwdriver and a mallet.

    • 2

Cut the length of the existing sling with a utility knife along both frames and remove the existing sling. Remove the remaining pieces of the sling from the frames by sliding them toward the top of the chair, where the end caps were removed, and out of the frame.

    • 3

Coat the sling-mounting rails in the frame with liquid soap or cold cream to act as a lubricant.

    • 4

Identify the top and bottom portion of the replacement sling and trim excess spline material in the sling flush with the fabric.

    • 5

Orient the sling on the frame with the Tropitone label up and facing toward the back of the chair.

    • 6

Slide the sling into the frame rails, beginning at the top of the chair where the end caps were removed. Have an assistant feed the sling slowly into the slot while the second person tugs it a few inches at a time along the length of the frame rail. When the sling is fully installed in the frame, use pliers to make final adjustments and align both sides.

    • 7

Cut any remaining spline material flush with the end of the frame so the end caps can be reinstalled.

    • 8

Reinstall the the end caps by tapping them in with a mallet.
