How to Drain the Cooperage 281 Spa

California Cooperage Spas were first introduced in 1972 as the first mass-produced Redwood hot tubs. Owners of these spas are able to use the digital settings to adjust water pressure, water temperature and jet direction. Cooperage recommends that users drain the 281 MAAX spas once every six to eight weeks to keep the water fresh. Fortunately, draining the spa does not require a significant amount of effort or expertise.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the circuit breaker that provides the spa with its power to the "Off" position.

    • 2

Open the niche door, which is located at the base of the front side of the panel. The drain is located here.

    • 3

Pull the drain hose out about 12 inches.

    • 4

Remove the cap from the drain hose, and then attach a garden hose. Turn the valve handle about one quarter of a turn counterclockwise.

    • 5

Wait several minutes as the water flows from the spa through the hose.

    • 6

Close the valve and remove the garden hose when the water flow stops.

    • 7

Replace the cap. Push the hose back into the niche.

    • 8

Flip the circuit breaker that provides the spa with its power back to the "On" position.
