Do It Yourself: Hammock Stand Brackets

A hammock is the perfect place to relax while enjoying the outdoors. A hammock can be as simple as a piece of fabric tied between two trees, or it can be a piece of fabric held up with a stand. In order to hold the weight of a person, hammock stands require bracket pieces, or supports, in the shape of an "L" that connect a vertical structure to a horizontal structure. While there are a variety of ways to construct a hammock stand and the bracket pieces that hold the stand in place, the simplest method is to use metal pipe elbow fittings. With these fittings, you can connect pieces together as if you were putting together a puzzle to form a stand.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw four T-shaped metal pipe pieces to each end of two 4-foot pieces of metal pipe so that the vertical end of the T-shaped pipe is sticking upward.

    • 2

Screw four elbow connectors to the open ends of the two 8-foot pieces of metal pipe.

    • 3

Form a rectangle by attaching the T connectors on the two 4-foot pieces of metal pipe to the elbow connectors on the two 8-foot pieces of metal pipe.

    • 4

Screw the four 5-foot pieces of metal pipe into the open vertical portion of the T at each of the four corners of the rectangle.

    • 5

Screw an elbow connector to the open ends of each of the four 5-foot pieces. This will form the brackets of the stand.

    • 6

Connect the two elbow connectors on the left side of the stand by screwing a 4-foot metal pipe between the two elbows. Do the same for the right side of the stand.

    • 7

Mix your cement according to the instructions and apply cement over each joint of the stand to secure it in place. Let the cement dry according to the instructions.
