How to Put an Arbor on Concrete

If you would like to create a whimsical, classic enclave for your garden, consider adding an arbor. Even if you have a backyard of concrete or a concrete pad on your back lawn, you can still transform the space by purchasing a sturdy, self-standing arbor and then decorating it with vines and flowers. Purchase an arbor from your local home construction supply store with a sturdy base. Your arbor should be about 54 inches wide, 82 inches deep and 82 inches high. This ensures your arbor stays put on a concrete slab. If you have a flimsy arbor that needs soft ground, such as soil or sand for an outdoor wedding in a garden or on a beach, then consider purchasing a sturdier arbor.

Open several bags of potting soil and pour them on top of the concrete slab. Pour enough that the soil is 2 to 3 inches deep. Place your sturdy, self-standing arbor, pressing it into the soil. This hides the concrete and gives your arbor a further strengthening with the soil base.

Pay to have a company pour concrete onto your slab. You also can rent can electric concrete mixer. You will need to add 1 part water, 2 parts cement and 3 parts sand. Turn on the mixer. Once the concrete has been thoroughly mixed, pour the concrete from the mixer directly onto the concrete pad. Use a trowel or a bull float to smooth the concrete. Allow it to dry. Place the arbor on the concrete, press down on it and allow the concrete to dry. The arbor is cemented to the concrete pad.
