Native plants that can be found in South Africa, Asia and South America grow wild and are typically about 10 to 12 inches tall. These plants bear blooms that are about 4 inches wide. Hybrids and cultivated Gerber daisies grown in nurseries can yield much larger flowers and have been known to grow as tall as 18 to 24 inches.
To have optimum growth, a Gerber daisy needs certain growing conditions. Gerber daises prefer slightly sandy soil, mild temperatures, moderate moisture and full sunlight. Planting a Gerber daisy in an area that is typically around 70 degrees Fahrenheit will encourage a strong plant that will return to flower year after year.
If you live in an area that does not have ideal conditions for growing Gerber daisies, you may want to consider keeping one as a houseplant. As long as you keep your daisy in full sun and keep an eye on the temperature in your home, you can have a lovely plant that will flower for you for about six weeks every year.
