How to Plant Daffodils in the Spring

Daffodils bring vivid color to a spring garden and are easy to plant. Suitable for planting in USDA zones 3 through 8, daffodils are normally planted in the fall, but the same planting process can be followed for spring planting. If you are unable to plant your bulbs in the fall, go ahead and plant them in the spring; just be prepared to wait until the following spring for them to bloom.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a suitable planting spot, preferably one that gets adequate sun throughout the year; part sun and part shade is the best environment for daffodils. Make sure your soil has good drainage, as daffodils do not like a wet home.

    • 2

Dig a hole in your soil 6 to 8 inches deep and plant your bulbs with the pointed side up. This is the stem of the daffodil.

    • 3

Add a small amount of compost to your soil to help your bulbs establish strong roots.

    • 4

Water your bulbs as soon as you have planted them to help them settle and disperse any air pockets.
