Water for Plants & Animals

For pet and plant owners, it is important to know how much water you need to administer. Pets can suffer from dehydration without water, and plants must be given water so they do not wither and die.
  1. Plants

    • Water houseplants more deeply at a less frequent rate to help them adapt to a less frequent watering schedule. The larger the plant is, the more water it will require. Plants that have no problem blooming need less water, while others may have trouble outside of their natural climate and require additional watering.

    Dogs

    • Smaller dogs need 1 to 2 cups of water per day, while large breeds can sometimes need more than 6 cups of water daily. Factors such as weather and activity should also be factored into the equation. The more active a dog has been, or the hotter the weather is, the more water the dog needs.

    Cats

    • With cats, it is often best to consistently refill a small water bowl next to their food. Cats that eat dry food may want more water to wash it down than those who eat wet food, but all cats will want water periodically throughout the day.
