Instructions

    • 1

Find a site that gets the right amount of sun for your flowers. Most flowers need six to eight hours of full sun every day, but others require shade or partial sun. Don't worry about the soil or drainage in your site, but do choose a site that's level for ease of construction.

    • 2

Lay concrete blocks end-to-end and side-by-side on the site to build a raised platform. The blocks don't need to be tight together, but should be settled in place and stable.

    • 3

Pour quick-draining soil over the blocks until you have a layer that is 4 to 5 inches thick. Pour organic compost over the soil until your growing layer is 8 to 10 inches thick. If you have plants or bulbs that require a deeper planting, add more soil and compost until your planting layer is deep enough.

Use a garden fork, rake or shovel to mix these two ingredients thoroughly. Plant your flowers as you would normally.
