Full-Sun Fringe Flowers

The Chinese fringe flower or Loropetalum is a close relative of witch hazel. It grows in full sun to part shade conditions, yet produces the most vibrant colors in full sun. This versatile shrub can tolerate cooler winter temperatures as well as extreme heat. The fringe flower offers many varieties, all of which can adapt to the climate and light provided.
  1. Original

    • The original variety of Loropetalum bears small, white, four-petaled flowers. Its arched branches help to form its dense and rounded shape. Although typically growing 3 to 5 feet in height, this original variety has been know to reach a maximum height of 15 feet. It's a great choice for wooded gardens.

    Ruby

    • The Ruby fringe flower is the smallest variety available on the market. The name "Ruby" refers to its ruby red new growth. It is a great choice for planting along a foundation or in small bedded areas. The Ruby type will grow 3 to 5 feet tall with pink, year-long flowers.

    Fire Dance

    • Fire Dance is distinguished by its dark-pink flowers. Its leaves change from purple to green, with only a hint of red, at maturity. This strain grows faster than its counterparts and reaches 3 to 6 feet tall. Fire Dance is a great choice for container gardening and a perfect addition to your front porch or deck.

    Zhuzhou

    • The Zhuzhou fringe flower may just be the most exotic of the group. With leaves that are blackish maroon and bright-pink flowers, the zhuzhou is a show stopper. The largest member of the family, this shrub will grow up to 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide. It can be trained or pruned to achieve a desired look.
