Landscaping Ideas for Churches

If a church is interested in growing, one of the things they should consider is their first impression, which so many times is their building. Landscaping can make or break that impression. Beautiful flowers and lush landscaping convey that a church is living, growing and active; creates a sense of peacefulness; and makes visitors feel uplifted.
  1. Prayer Gardens

    • Prayer gardens are a popular landscaping idea for churches. They are usually a garden with a very secluded feel. A prayer garden usually has seating allowing people a place to meditate or pray. Some prayer gardens have scripture on signs or carved into stone or a calming water element.

    Courtyard

    • A pleasant courtyard provides a gathering place where church members may visit and also cuts down on the amount of landscaping needed. A paved courtyard with benches and potted plants provides a place to welcome visitors.

    Sculptures and Fountains

    • Sculptures and fountains add visual interest to a church's landscaping. Consider sculptures that depict religious themes and ideas such as crosses. Thoughtfully placed fountains, small streams, or even little ponds create a sense of calm -- a welcoming tone that can be inviting to some.

    Beds

    • Churches tend to have professional lawncare services to tend their flowers. Flower beds should be filled with a mixture of native perennials and annuals. Consider lining beds close to sidewalks so the foliage can serve as a pleasant, welcoming path.
