Flowers That Last Long in Arrangements

Just because you want to give someone a floral arrangement does not mean the gift has to end up in the trash can two days later because the flowers have died and wilted. Some flowers are better suited for arrangements than others. They are able to last longer, particularly if the flowers are prepared correctly.
  1. Carnations

    • One of the most common flowers found in floral arrangements is the carnation. This flower is not expensive and will last a long time. It comes in a multitude of colors. You can request the flowers be dipped in a dye to go with a certain color scheme or theme. With proper care and a few tricks, such as putting a drop of bleach in the water every three days, carnations will last two weeks.

    Orchids

    • Orchids are on the opposite end of the spectrum from the carnation when it comes to price. The orchid comes in a variety of shapes and smells. This flower will also give your arrangement a tropical feel. Different types of orchids exist. The thicker the petals, the longer the flower will last. One trick to ensure the flower will last is to keep it out of direct sunlight and in a cool place.

    Star of Bethlehem

    • The star of Bethlehem flower comes in a cluster on one stem. The white flower is expensive, but adds a touch of exotic elegance to an arrangement. Not all of the buds on one stem will open, but with proper care and a few tricks, the flowers will last in the vase at least five days. Keep the flowers away from heat and change the water everyday.

    Chrysanthemum

    • The chrysanthemum is a large and long lasting flower to have in your floral arrangement. Since it blooms later in the year, it is a common flower to give for fall events. This flower will last for at least one week in the vase if you take a few steps to ensure it. Gently spritz the flowers daily and change the water every two days.
