How to Relocate Wild Turkeys in Pennsylvania

Wild turkeys can be found in Pennsylvania year 'round, as they do not migrate elsewhere. When you have wild turkeys on your property and want to relocate them -- for reasons like they are becoming troublesome to your garden or because they are aggressive -- you have to follow wildlife laws. Under regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the U.S. Department of Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, it is illegal for an individual to possess a wild animal without a proper license provided through the state. You cannot relocate a wild turkey legally by yourself. You can capture it with the help of another individual, then contact the proper authorities to remove it.

Instructions

    • 1

Lure the turkey by placing grains like corn in your yard. Have a trapping box handy. Wait until you see a wild turkey go for the bait, then proceed into the yard.

    • 2

Approach the turkey quietly from behind. Turkeys are very skittish and will take off flying at the first sense of danger. Have the box ready to throw on top of the turkey.

    • 3

Quickly throw the box on top of the turkey before it runs away. Have a second individual bring out the sheet of thin metal to you. Slide the sheet of metal underneath the box. This will keep the turkey from trying to dig out.

    • 4

Place a weight like rocks or bricks on top of the box in order to keep the turkey from pushing its way out of the box.

    • 5

Call your local animal control office; its officers will come and remove the turkey from your property. You legally cannot do the removal yourself in the state of Pennsylvania.
