Easy to Build Flowerbed Fences

A flowerbed fence can be decorative, practical or both. There are simple ways to make a flowerbed fence that looks attractive and does not require a large investment in supplies. If you need to keep small animals out of your flowerbed, then you will need to do a little digging, but the end result is still an easy but effective flowerbed fence.
  1. Rocks

    • One of the simplest flowerbed fences to build is a rock fence. You can line the perimeter of your flowerbed either with rocks you find in your yard, or rocks you buy from the local home improvement store. Find decorative rocks that will add some color to your flowerbed border and give it a unique look. You can also buy flat stones, dig a small trench around your flowerbed and install the stones standing upright. This will create a simple fence that can also keep out small animals.

    Sticks

    • Gather up sticks from your yard, and use strong twine to fashion them into a flowerbed fence. Plan out your fence first so you know exactly what size sticks you will want and which designs you will be making. You can use this as a finishing project for your garden that you can do yourself, or get your family members involved to help out.

    Animal Fence

    • If you have rabbits or other small animals that can leap over stones to get to your flowers, then there is a simple solution to the problem. Dig a trench around your flowerbed that is approximately 6 inches deep. Install some small pieces of wood as fence posts that stick up approximately 2 feet from ground level. Lay wooden boards across the top of the posts and nail them in place. Use a staple gun to attach inexpensive chicken wire to the wood boards, and allow the wire to go to the bottom of the trench. Once you fill the trench back in with dirt, you will have a simple flowerbed fence that will be effective at keeping burrowing or jumping animals out of your flowers.

    Stacked Wood

    • A flowerbed fence can be as simple as stacking wood around the perimeter of your garden. Wooden fence posts that are flat on two sides and rounded on the other work very well. If you want to secure your small wood fence in place, drill holes down from the top to the bottom, and insert metal rods down through the wood and into the ground.
