Hanging Brackets for Flowers for a Deck

Using hanging flower baskets is an effective way to maximize space on decks. Much like when planting flowers in the yard, gardeners must take their plant's growing requirements into consideration when choosing a space to hang their basket. For example, most plants like full sunlight; however, plants such as lily of the valley grow in shady areas. Brackets are used to hold heavy flower baskets. In fact, flower baskets become quite heavy after waterings. Prevent flower baskets from falling by using hanging brackets.

Instructions

    • 1

Run an electronic stud finder across the wall. An electric wall stud finder works by beeping or flashing when run over a wall stud. A wall stud is the frame of the home and deck that supports drywall. When hanging heavy flower baskets, it is important to hang them from the wall stud to prevent them from falling and tearing a hole in the wall.

    • 2

Mark the location of the wall stud with a pencil. Hold the bracket up and mark where the holes are in the bracket for drilling in screws.

    • 3

Hold the bracket. Place a screw in each hole in the bracket. Drill in the screws using an electric screwdriver.

    • 4

Place a scale on the deck. Place the flower basket on the scale. Check the label on the bracket to ensure that it supports the weight of the flower basket.

    • 5

Hang the basket on the bracket. Rotate the flower basket every couple of days, so that all parts of the plant get enough sun exposure.
