Enlarge the "door" of a rustic, wooden birdhouse using a small saw or knife. Carve out a rectangular shape if you want to attach a "fairy garden door," or cut out a different shape and leave the birdhouse as is.
Paint one coat of primer on the birdhouse. Allow it to dry for about 20 minutes and paint a second coat if desired. Allowit to dry for another 20 minutes. Paint the birdhouse in earthen tones, such as brown, tan or muted olive green. Choose one color only or mix and match colors to create assorted patterns and designs.
Attach natural embellishments to the birdhouse with hot glue, such as twigs, leaves, small vines and other greenery, assorted mosses, shell pieces and small pebbles. Use shell and pebble pieces as borders around the house's roof or door if desired, or cover the entire roof with moss. Allow all glue to dry for about 15 minutes.
Place your fairy garden house in the area of your property designated as your "fairy garden." Make a small stone pathway leading up to the house if desired, and place the house at the base of a foothill or nestled among ornamental grasses. Fill the garden with bright-colored flowers as well as herbs, both of which are said to be beloved by fairies. Look for miniature versions of plants and flowers as well to give your fairy garden dimension, and add other embellishments such as a small fountain, painted rocks and stones, garden fairy figurines, and terra-cotta planters.
