Select the area around your lattice in which you want to place your garden bed. The bed could fully encircle the lattice, or it could be placed on one side of it. Think about the overall look of your landscape and how the bed will fit within it when you are deciding.
Place rocks around the perimeter of the flower bed to create a border. Push the rocks into the soil an inch or so to anchor them.
Loosen the soil within the flower bed with a spade. Place potting soil in the bed to give the plants a good place to grow.
Plant climbing plants at the base of the lattice. Choose a traditional growing plant, such as ivy, for the lattice. Alternatively, choose climbing flowers, such as sweet peas or jasmine. Choose plants that have sun requirements that fit those of your space. Follow the nursery or package instructions for planting the plants.
Place bedding plants in the rest of the garden bed. Choose plants that will coordinate well with the climbing plants but will stay fairly small. For example, consider begonias, zinnias or pansies. Choose bedding plants that are right for the sun exposure of your flower bed.
