How to Dig Straight With a Mine Excavator

The earth yields a great bounty of resources for personal use and profit, among which are the vast quantity of minerals and precious metals suspended beneath the surface. Whether on a grand scale or as an independent operation, mining relies on gas- or diesel-powered excavators to dig down into the earth. Digging straight with a mine excavator can be a challenge, but doing so helps keep a mine shaft even and uniform.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear the excavation site of any loose debris. Place markers, such as stakes, denoting the corners of your site.

    • 2

Attach a loader bucket with teeth onto the digging boom. This kind of attachment is best for straight digging.

    • 3

Lower the boom toward to the ground while adjusting the bucket, so it enters at a 90-degree angle. As you dig deeper, keep the bucket as close to 90 degrees as possible.

    • 4

Remove the bucket, and attach a planer blade to the excavator.

    • 5

Lower the planer blade into the hole, and use it to smooth out the straight walls and make them more even.
