How to Build a Raised Flower Bed with Odd Angles

Raised flowerbeds are a good option if you want to add visual interest to your landscape. The beds are also helpful if you attempt to grow plants in an area with poor soil, poor drainage or other problems. Filling a raised bed with potting soil negates the space's soil issues. While many raised flowerbeds are simple squares or rectangles, you can make a bed in any shape you like, including one with odd angles.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a location for your raised flowerbed. Select a space that receives the amount of sunlight necessary for the plants you intend to place in the garden.

    • 2

Determine the shape you want for your raised flowerbed. Lay a piece of rope on the ground in that shape and size so you can see how the design suits the rest of the landscape. Adjust the angles and size as needed.

    • 3

Place metal edging along the future flowerbed's perimeter, using the shape you made with rope as your guide. Push the edging about 1 inch into the ground, and use a hammer if necessary. Lock the metal edging's strips together using the edging's provided stakes. Metal edging, which typically is available in 8- to 10-foot strips, bends and curves easily, making it a good option for a flowerbed with odd angles.

Fill the flowerbed with enough soil to raise the bed to the desired height within the metal edging's walls. Plant your flowers in the raised garden.
