How to Build a Utility Table

Utility tables come in all shapes and sizes. Everything from coffee tables to card tables are utility tables–and can be used for a number of applications. Often enough there will be a place that could use a table, but it's an odd location so finding one to fit might not work. It's usually more efficient to simply build one to fit. The supplies are readily available at the local hardware store and are normally less expensive than purchasing a table outright.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the table-top upside down on a flat surface. Table-tops can be purchased at any home improvement store. There are light table tops, heavy-duty table tops or medium table tops used for everyday activities. Table tops can be made essentially from any material--depending on the purpose.

    • 2

Place the leg mounts spaced evenly around the table-top. Place them according to table shape and size, between 1 1/2 and 4 1/2 inches from each corner. Using a round table top allows for three or four legs placed in a triangle or square.

    • 3

Screw the leg mounts to the table-top with the screws and screwdriver.

    • 4

Screw the legs to the leg mounts.

    • 5

Flip the table right side up.
